Kerry Katona has been made bankrupt after failing to pay an £82,000 tax bill.

The former Atomic Kitten managed to reduce her tax bill from £417,000 to £82,000 but HM Revenue and Customs pushed ahead with the bankruptcy petition, which was first issued in January.

The 27-year-old had until 1pm yesterday to come up with the payment, but the star's lawyer, Luke Harris, told the court that Katona couldn't pay because cheques had not been cleared.

Mr Registrar Nicholls had given mum-of-four Kerry until yesterday to pay up in a matter that has already been before the courts four times.

The bankruptcy news is the latest in a string of bad luck for the I'm a Celebrity… winner. The star is currently going through a bitter custody battle with ex-husband Brian McFadden, over daughters Molly, six, and Lilly-Sue, five.

Kerry is said to earn £750,000 a year as the face of Iceland, and £400,000 as a columnist.

It's a shame if anyone has to be bankrupt, but since it was in the courts 4 times and she earns approx 1 million per year I am sure she could have paid the 85k.

I find it very difficult to feel sorry for her. Kerry Katona has made a fortune through being in the right place at the right time as she has no discernible talent of her own and has always profitted from the efforts of others. She is a waster and attention seeker who always seems to put herself and that man who sponges off her, oh, its her 'husband' before her children. When she was running around wasting money on cars that she can't afford to pay for, where were they. She does not merit the kind of money she recieves and yet she can't even be bothered to sort out her tax properly for, to me this smacks of laziness, she's left it too long and 'forgotten' about it and now people have to clear up yet another of her messes. Sorry, I'm rambling but she makes me feel sick.

It seems to be her heads bigger than her wallet. She used to be famous and never quite came down a level .Maybe she thought the courts would be lenient because of who she thinks she is. I just hope the kids don't suffer.

Kerry had a better than us mortals' chance to earn good money in a short time - and she just squanders it! Like she said - she's turning into her mother and now wants to do lipo and tummy tucks - why doesn't she try eating less? And what are Iceland doing still employing her and her brats in their adverts? Talk about committing hara kiri - I never shop at Iceland and not likely to if their cakes turn me into Kerry! What a waste of money - there must be hundreds of decent actors who could be earning that fat fee.

i like kerry she doesnt deserve this and her ex-husband is such a idiot and she shouldnt be in such a state it will end up fine. i hope her kids are fine. she was so nice to me when we met, we ar like best friends know i will suport her as much as possible. If she struggles she can always stay at my manshion though with her kids. kerry stay positive you will figer some thing out!

i think she had plenty o chances to sort her life out for her self and her children i think her husband brian should bring them two little girls up they would be better o with a good and safe familythey hear and see two mutch and they dont desurve what ther mother has been doing
