Britney Spears diet secrets

Marie Claire Celebrity News: Britney Spears

Britney Spears has revealed the diet plan that got her back into shape.

The 26-year-old, who industry insiders say is set to launch the biggest comeback in music history, graces the cover of American OK! magazine for the second week running, dressed in a white bikini and showing off her new, slimmer physique.

The last two years have been a troubled period for the singer but Britney reveals in the interview: 'I'm the healthiest I've been all my life.'

She puts her new shape down to a strict diet plan which cuts out sugar altogether. 'I don't eat fruit or even fruit juice because of the sugar. I eat chicken, salmon, avocados and rice.'

The singer said her breakfast consists of egg whites and often she eats turkey burgers for lunch. 'I try to do just 1,200 calories a day. It may sound like it's not much, but it's actually a lot of food if you eat the right things.'

So, gone are the burgers and fries but coffee is still Britney's guilty pleasure: 'The frappuccinos are gone, but I do still drink coffee,' she admits.

With a full gym workout five days a week, it seems Britney is on course to make her comeback with a vengeance.

1,200 calories a day! I wouldn't last past elevenses on that few calories.

Didn't a thing on this site say that coffee was good for you a few days ago?

Coffee drinkers, rejoice. While you might be using it for a "pick-me-up," coffee may also be extending your life.

Not eating fruit because of the sugar? Madness! Although she then goes on to say she eats advocados...um is that not a fruit anymore?!

But you need 1500 calories a day to think straight - that's not me saying that, it's scientists! If you were to study, read much for pleasure or have a job that engages the brain, you have to eat 1500 calories at least or more, and include carbs. Sure you can always push yourself, physically, but the brain will not be pushed!
Still, takes a lot of discipline, and nice to see her looking well and happy. Personally the last time I went on a diet (15 years ago!) I became a real moron, can't afford to lose the brain power.

I can't believe this is reported as a good thing. She is a mother of two children and wasn't overweight. To aim to have the same weight she had as 17 girl/woman is insane and simply putting out the wrong message.

I think there is some jealousy posted here by some of you. It takes a strong will and determination to stick to even the simplest of diets for most of us. I mean think about how hard it is to just say "no" to tempting sweets alone. Also if those of you who think it's crazy to eliminate sugar in the form of fruit and fruit juice,.. have a good look at the apple juice container or the orange juice bottle next time and see exactly how much sugar they actually contain! More than some desserts! And when she talks of eliminating fruits but is still eating avocados she is probably referring to the fact that avocados are a great source of healthy fat and a low source of sugar..meaning she doesn't eat apples or oranges or mangoes because of the high sugar content. I think a lot of you are forgetting she has trained professionals who help her with this and have gone to school and know what they are doing. She needed a quick weight loss program that works for her own body and it seems she has stuck to it. Most of us should be so lucky to be in the shape she is or for that matter stick to a routine as hard as hers!

WOW - even healthier than her Oops-I-Did-It-Again amazing MTV performance days? That says a lot.
