John McCain hires celeb agent for campaign
Republican candidate John McCain has hired a Hollywood agent to sex up his campaign and encourage more of a celebrity following.
While the McCain attempts to drum up Hollywood help, Barack Obama's aides are reportedly panicking over the onslaught of celebrity support expected at the Democratic convention in Denver next week.
McCain had expected California's Republican governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, to accept a prime time speaking slot at the Republican candidate's convention in St Paul next month, but it seems the ex-action movie star may pass on the invitation altogether, owing to his state's budget crisis.
Celebrity agent, Jeffrey Barry, of the William Morris agency who look after talent across the entertainment industry, is the man in question who has been brought in to add a little sparkle to the McCain campaign.
So far, however, the Republican convention at the beginning of next month can expect the ageing Beach Boys and 'Redneck Woman' singer Gretchen Wilson – any clue? No, neither have we.
Other celebrities supporting the Republican campaign are predominantly country and western talent with LeAnn Rimes topping the list.
Meanwhile, Senator Obama has the opposite dilemma; he is awash with celebrity support. His campaign has already suffered from the Republican attack ads rendering him the 'biggest celebrity in the world' and it is believed the campaign is now attempting to dim the atmosphere of adoring A-list fans.
Oprah Winfrey actively campaigned for Obama during the primaries, while George Clooney is hosting a lucrative benefit party next month in Switzerland.
Others Obama supporters include Madonna, Kanye West, Cyndi Lauper, Rufus Wainwright and the band, the Black Eyed Peas; actors Scarlett Johansson, Susan Sarandon, Gywneth Paltrow, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck as well as directors Spike Lee and Quentin Tarantino.
Senator Obama could surely share the love with his opponent - he wouldn't miss one or two of those A-list supporters...
