Gwyneth Paltrow wears fur in Tod's campaign
Gwyneth Paltrow has angered animal rights campaigners by wearing fur in a new advertising campaign for luxury fashion label Tod's.
The Hollywood star is photographed draped in fox fur and wearing fur-lined boots in the Italian accessories label's latest advertising campaign.
Paltrow, 35, is married to the Coldplay singer and vegetarian Chris Martin and has long won admiration for her environmental credentials.
Her decision to endorse Tod's – a luxury goods company which also uses ostrich and snakeskin in its products – was met with shock from animal rights campaigners.
'Apparently her beauty really is only skin deep,' said a spokesman for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta), who said the actress had ignored their calls.
Friends said Paltrow's decision may jeopardise her close friendship with Stella McCartney, who supports Peta and does not use fur or leather in her designs.
Mark Glover, director of Respect for Animals, told the Daily Telegraph that the actress should be 'ashamed'. 'I can only assume that Paltrow either is ignorant of the facts or lacks human decency and compassion,' he added.
Paltrow was confirmed as the face of the Italian label's autumn/winter collection in May – replacing Sienna Miller, who starred in last year's campaigns.
The campaign was shot in Capri by Mario Testino and is supposed to evoke 'timeless elegance and modern flair', according to Tod's creative director.
No comment was available from Paltrow or Martin.
