Elizabeth Taylor off life-support machine
By Carla Bevan on Friday 1 August 2008
Elizabeth Taylor has reportedly been taken off her life-support machine and is expected home soon.
The 76-year-old Oscar-winner was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital in mid-July for an undisclosed illness - thought to be pneumonia - and, according to the National Enquirer, put on a life-support machine.
However, her publicist, Dick Guttman, said yesterday: 'Ms Taylor is fine. Her hospital visit was precautionary. She will be returning home shortly. At present, she is surrounded by family, friends and fabulous jewels.'
An honorary dame since 2000, Taylor has been plagued by bad health over the past few years and is confined to a wheel chair after having both hips replaced.
However, sources close to the actress say she is still passionate about designing her jewellery line and even has a fragrance in the works.
'The doctors thought they were going to lose her,' an insider claims. 'She's still very sick, but she's past the crisis.'

You can't keep a good woman down. I love Elizabeth Taylor.... I even took a day off from work many years to see her in person... long live the Queen.
