Will Johnny Depp star in next Batman movie?

Johnny Depp and Philip Seymour Hoffman have both been tipped to star in the next Batman movie, following the huge success of The Dark Knight.

After the follow-up to Batman Begins hit the jackpot at the box office in its opening weekend in America and has received critical acclaim across the globe, producers are hoping they can convince Johnny Depp to take on the role of The Riddler in the third in Christopher Nolan's Batman series.

According to The National Enquirer, studio heads are also targeting Oscar-winner Philip Seymour Hoffman for the role of The Penguin.

Reports surfaced earlier this week that Angelina Jolie is eager to take up the part of Catwoman – even the original Catwoman from the Batman TV series, Julie Newmar, believes Angelina would 'own the part'.

The Riddler was last played by Jim Carrey in 1995's Batman Forever while Danny Devito took up the role of The Penguin in 1992's Batman Returns.

A source told the National Enquirer: '(Producers) are convinced that the role of the Riddler is perfect for Depp. Johnny's a pro.

'He'll be able to take direction from director Chris Nolan and still make the character his own. And what better Penguin is there than Philip Seymour Hoffman.'

It's no wonder stars are itching to take up roles in the franchise. Warner Brothers has revealed The Dark Knight is the studio's biggest hit of all time, grossing $324.3 million so far and eclipsing the previous top money-spinner, Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone.

I was so excited to see the 'The dark Knight' and I'm still amazed by the movie, I still can't stop talking about it! Heath Ledger's performance was unbelievably out of this world.
It's exciting to hear that all these great actors like Johnny Depp & Phillip Seymour Hoffman are in the pipeline to take over these great roles, and I can't see anyone other than Angelina Jolie donning the suit as Catwoman!
Roll on the next Batman!!

I don't like the idea of Johnny Depp in Batman! In fact i hate the idea! The best I ever saw Depp do was in Pirates of the Caribean, which I don't really think would suit the Riddler! In fact i think it would destroy the character! In the same way I don't think Jim Carey reprising the role of the Riddler would work either in the way Chris Nolan is presenting the films! I think it needs a new or up and coming nat that well known actor to portray the Riddler in the new movie!! And i don't think Catwoman or Penguin should appear. If another bad guy is to appear maybe use somebody not used on screen before maybe Black Mask or Hugo Strange!

I don't know about Johnny Depp either. I mean I would be picturing willy wonka again. Try this on for size: Crispin Glover. Willard, creepy thin man from charlie's angels--- now he is perfect for the role. I hope they look for him on that one. I wish there was a place to email the director's to offer suggestions on this matter.

Angelina Jolie is super overrated! I've been a Batman fan my whole life, and she would disgrace this movie! Maybe a good person, but always type cast.

I think Johnny Depp will be perfect as next Batman villain. They need an actor so great to fill Heath Ledger's shoes. There is obviously going to be a villain comparison next Batman movie. With Johnny Depp, he will be good for business with fan pleasing even though I don't think his character will be better than the Joker's.

I do get a Willy Wonka swag if Depp is going to be in next Batman movie, but I recalled saying to self "Heath Ledger is playing the Joker?" Infact, I could barely see it back then and look how wrong I was.

As a great actor, I think Depp can pull away from Willy Wonka and make The Riddler villain his own.

As for Catwoman, the role does suit Angelina Jolie but she is overrated and will hurt the movie. As for Cher as Catwoman...still a no for me as I cannot even see Cher and Christian Bale characters romantically involved..not even flirting.

Girl Character Possibilities:

Catwoman: how can you people NOT think Angelina Jolie would fit Catwoman?! look at her body. the long legs and perfect curves would look AMAZING in a catwoman outfit. and her sultry badgirl attitude we see in every movie of hers PROVES she can take on Catwoman. you dont have to like Angelina but you cant deny should would indeed OWN the part of catwoman.






Harley Quinn: Hello? if the joker is gone then she would be perfect as a reminder of him. And she is such a badass character. more people need to know who she is. As far as an actor choice...Sheri Moon. she can do the laugh amazingly. however, when i think Harley Quinn i think Cameron Diaz. those ice cold blue eyes would be perfect, and the red lips, and oh the body. and some roles Cameron has done, we know she can do a goofy character. Harley is more of a goofy badass rather than sexy (well she is a Jester and Joker's partner in crime!!).





Poison Ivy: i wish Poison Ivy was a more believable character. i would really like to see her character again (and even though i think Uma Thurman did a great job as sexy Ivy, it could be done better). I would say Jessica Alba because she is sexy but i don't see her as a red head at ALL. maybe Scarlett Johansson.





&& if not i'll totally play poison ivy for FREE! hahaha she's my favorite.

Okay, no one asked for my opinion, but I'm still young, so I'll give it to you anyways. For those of you who think that Johnny Depp shouldn't star in the next Batman movie, (that is, if there really is another Batman movie), what is the matter with you people?

I mean, I don't like the idea either, but why don't you give the guy a chance? After all, he is an excellent actor. And I am 100% sure that he will certainly excel in it.

Personally, I believe Harley Quinn would be a great addition to the next movie but not as a major character. The writers could bring her in as wanting revenge for the Joker's imprisonment, and slowly work her way up to being Batman's biggest problem. As for Angelina Jolie playing Catwoman, I don't believe that she is quite suited for Catwoman, however possibly (and I stress possibly) she could play Posion Ivy-hell, she's got the lips!!! Johnny Depp could either play The Riddler or The Mad Hatter because he could definitely make each character his own!

P.S. Please tell me Cher playing Catwoman is a joke- how old is she now?

I would go for Daniel-Day Lewis... he would be the better riddler... I do like Johnny Depp too, nothing against him, he's a fantastic actor, but isn't Daniel-Day far better for a role like this??? He would be perfect...

As catwoman Angelina is a great choice, there's nothing more to say...

As the penguin I'd love to see Danny de Vito again, he was damn great...

As Poison Ivy I vote for Scarlett Johansson...

but please, do replace the Batman...
