Indiana Jones star, Shia LaBeouf has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after crashing his pick-up truck in Hollywood on Sunday.

La Beouf's truck crashed into another vehicle according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and overturned onto its bonnet.

The 22-year-old was arrested at the scene and according to LA county sheriff Sgt.S.Wolf: 'It was immediately apparent to officers responding on the scene that LaBeouf was intoxicated and he was subsequently placed under arrest.'

After being booked for a misdemeanour DUI (Driving Under the Influence) LaBeouf was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to treat injuries to his head, left hand and knee.

His lawyer read out a statement saying: 'Shia is currently recovering from extensive hand surgery with plans to return to work on the set of Transformers 2 within one month.'

The seemingly clean-cut actor, who was a well-known child star after winning an Emmy for the Disney series Even Stevens in 2003, has been dubbed by Hollywood critics as a rising Tom Hanks.

However, this latest incident is not LaBeouf's first brush with the law. In November last year, the actor was charged with misdemeanour criminal trespassing after a drunken spat in a Chicago pharmacy, but charges were later dropped.

LaBeouf later joked about the episode during an appearance on David Letterman's The Late Show saying: 'Drinking and driving is one thing, but drinking and shopping…it's just as bad.'
