Kate Hudson and Nicole Kidman movie
Rex Features
Kate Hudson is set to break out of her romantic comedy mould and really flex her acting muscles in a new movie starring none other than Nicole Kidman.
The pair are set to team up for a remake of the Broadway musical, Nine, in a movie adaptation directed by Rob Marshall, according to E! Online.
Hudson joins a stellar cast, that not only includes Kidman, but sees Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench and Sophia Loren share screen space, and the Oscar-winning Daniel Day-Lewis play the lead male role.
The movie will star the actor as world-famous film director Guido Contini, who must balance the women in his life while making his latest movie. Nine was inspired by Federico Fellini's autobiographical film 8 ½.
In a statement released earlier today, Marshall revealed that Hudson's role, as an American writer for Vogue named Stephanie, wasn't even in the original Broadway show ? he created it just for her.
He said: '[Hudson's] revelatory skills as a singer and a dancer lead to the creation of the role.'
Nine first opened on Broadway in 1982 with Raul Julia in the lead role. In 2003, a hit revival starred Antonio Banderas.
However, the film has already hit a couple of sour notes: Catherine Zeta-Jones was originally set to play Guido's film muse, Claudia, but dropped out because she reportedly felt her part wasn't substantial enough, and the role went to Nicole Kidman.
Javier Bardem, who was originally lined up to play the lead role that Daniel Day-Lewis stepped into, dropped out citing exhaustion from last year's heavy work load, which saw him pick up an Oscar for No Country for Old Men.
Nine is scheduled to start filming in London in October.

I thought Nicole Kidman has always said she would ease up on her schedule once getting re-married & having a child? When is that going to start?
