Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt stepped up their save-the-world mission this week – by donating $1 million to war-affected American and Iraqi children.

The Jolie-Pitt Foundation made the generous and life-changing donation to the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict (EPCC).

‘These educational support programmes for children of conflict are the best way to help them heal,’ Jolie said.

The Wanted star co-founded the EPCC in 2007, and the organisation has put aside $500,000 for the Armed Service YMCA Operation Hero Programme, which helps educate and emotionally support children of military personnel serving in Iraq. The other $500,000 will go to groups helping Iraqi women and children struggling to learn – or simply survive – which include Women for Women International, and The International Rescue Committee.

Pitt said of the donation: ‘We hope to encourage others to give to these great organisations.’
