Ellen DeGeneres upped the romance stakes this weekend by bestowing her wife-to-be, Portia de Rossi, with a dazzling pink diamond ring, ahead of their forthcoming nuptials.

Ellen revealed that the couple have set a wedding date as she walked the red carpet with her fiancée for the 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards in LA.

Portia donned a green satin Lanvin dress for the event and showed off her recently-acquired bling - a marquis cut diamond set with pink diamonds - to the waiting cameras.

Ellen walked home with an Emmy for outstanding talk-show host for the fourth year running and fans of the show can look forward to seeing part of the wedding for themselves, which will air on the programme.

Speaking of her impending nuptials, Ellen revealed: 'I can't wait to be married. I feel like it is long overdue,' she said. 'And I think someday people will look back on this like women not having the right to vote and segregation and anything else that seems ridiculous like we all don't have the same rights.'
