Amy Winehouse TB rumours

Amy Winehouse is set to remain in hospital as tabloid rumours suggest she is suffering with TB.

A report in The Sun said the star was showing classic signs of the illness, including coughing up blood and a 'raging' chest infection.

Doctors are also concerned about the amount of weight she has lost, and her lack of appetite – also both symptoms of tuberculosis, which often strikes in developing countries.

According to the Sun, the 24-year-old singer has been on a drip since she was admitted to hospital after collapsing on Monday, and doctors are attempting to wean her off drugs.

A source told the paper: 'Amy is in a bad way. Doctors are still struggling to control her heartbeat but the chest condition has been really worrying them.

'She’d been suffering horrible coughing fits and hurling up blood for a while but refused to be examined. Doctors now believe it is tuberculosis and are doing more tests to be certain.'

Medics were trying to discover if the collapse is related to a seizure she suffered last August, when she was hospitalised after a bout of particularly hard partying. Tests at the time detected brain problems linked to drug abuse.

The source added: 'Things sound really bad, but at least now they have found something specific it will be easier to keep her in hospital and free from drugs.

'The word tuberculosis might frighten her into getting herself well. It certainly should do.'

Amy's spokesman said it was up to doctors whether she would perform at Glastonbury and Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday celebration in Hyde Park this month, but it's looking less and less likely.

UPDATE

Amy Winehouse has been tested - and cleared - for tuberculosis, her rep confirms. Chris Goodman told People magazine: 'She has a chest infection and she had a routine test for TB, which came back negative.'

Goodman also denies a report in The Sun that said she has been coughing up blood at the London clinic where she was taken after fainting earlier this week.

Amy will give up drugs when she is ready. She is a millionaire junkie, doesn't have the problems of stealing to pay for smack and crack -so she will carry on until she either ODs, gets really sick - or gets fed up of the vicious circle of it all. She has the dosh - the minute her voice and talent go, she's had it. She could actually carry on doing drugs without the excesses, and probably enjoy her highs, hate her own lows, but carry on, just the same/

Depends what gets her first. You can't force her to stop. If she doesn't want to, she won't. We all know that. No point even trying to force her, really. Just stand by her. She's not homeless, she has a caring family, a rich record company, a few quid in the bank, a few friends, a lot of hangers-on - she could do with some love right now.
