Coleen and Wayne are married

Marie Claire celebrity news: Coleen McLoughlin's wedding

Wayne Rooney married childhood sweetheart Coleen McLoughlin yesterday, in a lavish Italian ceremony that cost a reported £5 million.

The couple started the day with a 20-minute civil ceremony at the Villa Durazzo, where they were married in front of a small group of close family and friends.

The bride wore a white strapless dress, with fitted bodice and full chiffon skirt. She topped off the look with a pair of white Christian Louboutin court shoes. The groom went tie-less in a brown suit.

Although the couple jetted to the sunny Italian Riviera for their nuptials, Coleen faced every bride's worst nightmare as the day saw heavy rain and thunderstorms, and she made her way to the bridal car flanked by huge umbrellas.

The bride was reportedly tearful as she was pronounced Mrs Rooney, by Santa Margherita Vice Mayor Gianni Costa.

Following the ceremony, Mr Costa commented, 'The bride looked wonderful in her dress and the groom looked sporty but elegant. No rings were exchanged, and the ceremony was very simple yet very beautiful.'

Following the ceremony, the couple were whisked to former monastery La Cervara, where a blessing was performed at 5pm by Coleen's local priest, Father Ned Quinn, who was flown to Italy for the event.

It was for this second ceremony that Coleen changed into a £200,000 Marchesa gown. The couple exchanged rings, and then made their way to a champagne reception, where a band played Frank Sinatra songs.

The wedding party then sat down for the reception dinner, where the couple eschewed fine cuisine for a pizza meal.

Coleen's favourite band Westlife were paid a reported £400,00 to provide the evening's entertainment.

The night ended with a £50,000 firework display as guests partied into the early hours.

Mr and Mrs Rooney will now make their way to Sardinia for their honeymoon, where they will reside on a £75,000 a day yacht.

Good luck to them.I like Coleen, she's down to earth, despite her wealth. She's just a lovely human being and I wish her and her new husband a happy future together.

I give it a maximum of 3 years.

3 years? i think they'll last longer than that. They've been together since they where like 16. It's pretty much true love with them two. I personally think they'll never split up- but if they do it will after a lot more than 3 years

I hope it does last for them both and wish them every happiness, however I think it's a very one sided relationship, it clear Wayne's the boss! Maybe with time she will start to resent him for that but then who knows?
