David Beckham is set to make a right Big Bird out of himself – in a guest-spot on Sesame Street.

The footie star was asked to appear in the hit US children's show to teach Elmo – and its viewers –a new word.

David chose to explain the word 'persistence' for the cameo, which was shot last week, according to the Sun.

A source said: 'David has always been a huge fan of the show. He was more than happy to go on. He had a great time filming. A real laugh.'

Other big stars, including Robert De Niro, Jamie Foxx, REM and James Blunt, have also put in guest-appearance on the show.
