Kim Cattrall's SATC row

Cynthia Nixon, Sarah Jessica Parkerm, Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis at the Poin Foundation Honours - The Arts in New York Rex Features

Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall has defended her decision to ask for more money to take part in the upcoming film version of the hit show.

The actress sparked controversy, and was blamed for stalling the movie, when she demanded a larger paycheck.

And Cattrall, who plays feisty maneater Samantha Jones, has admitted she did complain about the difference in wages between her and her co-star Sarah Jessica Parker.

She insists that she, along with her other co-stars Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, deserved a better offer.

'I never expected to be paid what Sarah was being paid,' she said. 'But I felt that the offer was not worthy of what the three of us had contributed.

'And I spoke up about it. I feel like I stuck my neck out. I fought. I don't ever want to be on a set where I feel undervalued.'

But the star dismissed rumours of a huge rift between the four women, insisting it's only natural for workmates to bicker from time-to-time.

She said: 'Do you get along with your colleagues all the time? If you're spending 18 hours a day at work, the last thing you want to do is go and have a drink with the people who you just spent the day with. You just need to get away.'

I think SJP is a producer, or something, for SATC so she would earn more than her fellow co-stars. However, I agree that Kim did the right thing in demanding a fair fee for her, and her other co-stars, contribution. Women actors are often paid less than their male co-stars, in a film which has mainly strong female roles they should be treated better finacially.

I think the girls should have done what Friends cast did from the beggining. They decided to demand the same amount. Why should SJP get much more than the others? I don't see why. Kim did the right thing.

Good for you... if you feel unhappy about it you should speak up and ask. Why should other people be upset if you do that?? You all make the show what it is... brilliant.
