Tom and Katie argue over Suri

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are reportedly at loggerheads over how to celebrate daughter Suri's upcoming birthday.

The actor is determined to make sure his daughter turns two with a bang, even planning to spend up to $500,000 to do so.

One insider told the National Enquirer: 'Tom is out to make Suri’s second birthday a spectacle like no other child has ever had.'

But wife Katie reportedly believes Tom's over-the-top ideas are too extravagant.

The source continued: 'Katie believes wholeheartedly it would set a bad example. She doesn’t want her daughter to be a spoiled Beverly Hills rich kid who expects the biggest and the best for the rest of her life….She’s all for a nice party, but nothing ostentatious.'

So what exactly does Tom have in mind? According to reports from the US, the Mission Impossible star wants the 18 April bash to be an A-list affair, complete with international cuisine and professional circus performers; he's even got his heart set on a giant birthday cake with a $60,000 price tag.

'He’s planning on bringing in an acrobatic troupe from Cirque de Soleil in Las Vegas for $100,000,' added the source.

Well, cruise is just trying to get what he thinks is "more positive" attention from the media, hoping perhaps also to sell the shots to some of them for a record price.
He'd better leave his ideas that a kid deserves to have the lifelong revenue of thousand africans spent in one day. It's indecent, but scientologists are mostly out-reality, and become indeed indecent.

I think Tom should think again and make it just 4 her to have some fun. He should decide 2 have the A-list bash when she turns 5, then 10 and so on.

Oh for God's sake! Half the world is starving & Tom 'I believe aliens run the world' Cruise is spending half the GDP of a thirdworldcountry on a party for a 2 year old, who won't even remember it! He should be honest & admit the party is to celebrate his own ego! I dont know what Katie sees in him!

Come on, if we had the money, you're not telling me that we would not go mad on our children's birthdays. I think that there is too much negative comments about Tom Cruise these days. The media have to have a 'dig' at him about everything! It's up to him, and of course, Kate what they do on their childs birthday. I'm almost as bored at listening to tales of how he's over-the-top, than I am of how Britney Spears is mad.............change the record!!!!

I think that is appalling. It is one thing to want to have a nice party for your child, its another to spend the same amount of money on a party that would feed a third world country for a year. I hope Katie "wins" and I hope its true that she doesnt want Suri to be spoiled.

Disgusting!

I agree with Mom! Whats up with Tom! With all the child poverty in the world this sets the worst possible example. At 2, this child will not have the capacity to appreciate such an event but will expect more of the same in the future without really knowing why. This is not about the child but about Cruise, and anyone worth their salt would frown on this.

Katie is absolutely correct in her thought process!
Finally! A celebrity mom who wants to keep their child well grounded!
Fight the fight Katie! You are a class act!

Tom Cruise needs to get off his Scientology cloud and get a life. Suri is just 2 years old, what on earth will he do for her 3rd birhtday, buy her an island.

Tom Cruise needs to have parenting lessons. He wants this party for his own ego, not his child. Grow up Tom!

Hi, I agree with Katie and make me thing she's got her feet on the ground, and she really must be a down to earth girl, wich is nice to know. Well done Katie!!!!!!!!!!1

Good on ya Katie! All that for a two-year-old is just obscene. What chance does the poor kid stand of growing up anything like normal if she's been brought up the way Tom wants it?
I don't normally have much time for Katie but if this story is true then she's gone right up in my estimation. Sensible woman.

I think all movie personalties are nothing but a bunch of spoiled adults. they have more money than they could ever spend in a lifetime, and they are certainly way overpaid. why doesn't hollywood give some of that money to charities or something. 60,00 thousand dollars on a cake? do you know how many starving people and poor people could live off of that. It is sickening! why don't you donate some of that money to cancer or other diseases, tom?
