Samantha Morton's secret stroke
Samantha Morton has revealed for the first time the debilitating effects of a stroke she suffered 18 months ago, that she managed to keep out of the limelight.
The Minority Report star, who managed to keep her illness a secret through the help of friends and family, revealed she even had to learn to walk again, but made a full recovery and gave birth to her second daughter, Edie, in January.
The Nottingham-born star told the Observer how, a few days after suffering head injuries when part of the ceiling in her home feel down on her, she suffered a stroke.
The press reported the ceiling accident, and told the world that Morton had pulled out of a film called Transsiberian because of it, but it was the stroke, and her subsequent lengthy recovery, that was really to blame.
Samantha said she was helped back to health by Spiritualized singer Jason Pierce - who had just got over pneumonia - and his girlfriend, Juliette Larche.
Speaking to the Observer, Morton said: Their friendship knows no bounds. He was the only person I knew who understood what that was like, being near to death.
The actress has since been making a splash on the big screen in hits like Elizabeth: The Golden Age and as the wife of tragic singer Ian Curtis in Control.
