Tom Yorke launches Friends of the Earth campaign
Rex Features
Radiohead frontman, Tom Yorke, has today launched a campaign with Friends of the Earth Europe to encourage governments to commit to annual cuts in carbon dioxide emissions.
The campaign, named The Big Ask, groups 17 European countries together who will campaign each of their country's governments to promise to legally binding carbon cuts.
The Radiohead singer has backed the climate change campaign since May 2005 and the campaign has already persuaded the UK government to introduce a landmark Climate Change Law.
The law is currently being debated in the House of Lords and will be introduced this summer. It sees the UK as the first country in the world to commit to setting legally binding targets for reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
Now it's TomYorke's job to spread the word across Europe. Speaking about The Big Ask campaign Yorke said: 'We will never wake from the nightmare of climate change unless our national governments and the European Union act.'
He added: 'By committing to annual cuts in our emissions at a national and European level we can play our part in tackling climate change, and set an example for the rest of world to follow.'
