Liz Hurley maid fiasco

Liz Hurley at Opening of Chopard Boutique Rex Features

A former maid of Liz Hurley and husband Arun Nayer has accused the couple of paying her as little as £1.20 an hour to work seven days a week in their home.

Speaking to The Mirror, Violet D'Souza told how she worked in the couple's West London house for four years, but was sacked last August following an argument with her employers. She was brought to England by Mr Nayer's family to work in the couple's home. She was paid 8,000 rupees a week, which converts to around £100.

After leaving the job, Ms. D'Souza sought advice from the Citizen's Advice Bureau, which resulted in her filing a claim against the couple for breach of contract, failure to supply a written statement of terms and conditions, race discrimination and unfair dismissal.

She was due to take Ms Hurley to an employment tribunal, scheduled for this week, but dropped the claim after the couple offered her a reported five figure settlement offer.

Well done for bringing this to light. Disgusting abuse of a vulnerable young woman. I hope they're ashamed but who knows

Complete exploitation of emerging market resources... including human resources...how else could Hurley sustain her lifestyle... definitely not by paying prevailing wages...

it;s just business...

Why do people with money treat their staff so badly?
They seem to think that they can do anything, they treat them worse than their pets.

If this is true, this is the all-time low; it is sick-making.
