Michelle Williams interview

In an interview conducted before Heath Ledger's accidental overdose on 22 January, Michelle Williams opened up about her break-up with Heath Ledger - and how she was learning to move on.

The 27-year-old actress gave an interview to Wonderland magazine, and revealed the break-up with Heath, with whom she had a two-year-old daughter Matilda, left her unsure of where her future was heading.

'Obviously so much has changed for me in the last few months that I don't really have an idea of what my life is going to be,' she said.

'I thought I knew certain things and it turned out that I didn't, so I don't really try and anticipate so much anymore. I'm not making any bets on the future.'

Michelle, who shot to fame in teen drama Dawson's Creek, split with Ledger last September. She said she had been recuperating in her Brooklyn pad she once shared with the late actor.

'I love domestic life,' she said. 'There's been a lot going on in my personal life and part of me is ... I don't know. I shouldn't talk about it, but it's like I'm re-emerging back into the world or something.'

And while the break-up was painful, she said there was one silver lining: less attention from the paparazzi.

'When you're in a relationship with somebody who is also a public personality, then it doubles the attention from the media,' she explained.

'When you minus that equation, it's just less enticing. That's been a real bonus. It's the plus side of the break-up for me.'

That peace will surely be a distant memory now, as she tries to move on with life after Heath. The actress has been constantly followed by paparazzi since Heath's tragic death, but is trying to get on with life as normal.

On Monday of this week, she returned to work on the film Mammoth, which she was filming in Sweden when she learned of Heath's passing.

In her only public statement since the tragedy, she said simply: 'My heart is broken'.
