Britney Spears remains in hospital

Doctors last night ruled that Britney Spears must stay in psychiatric care for an extra 14 days.

Britney was rushed to the UCLA Medical Centre in Los Angeles last week amid claims she had turned ‘psychotic’ after three sleepless days, during which she took a cocktail of drugs.

On Friday, her father, Jamie, was named conservator of his daughter’s estate. A court creates conservatorships when it determines that a person cannot care for themselves or handle their affairs. Commissioner Riva Goetz said Spears would be under conservatorship until today, when another hearing will be held.

As conservator, her father will have the power to ‘restrict visitors’, have around-the-clock security for Spears and have access to all medical records, Goetz said.

The court also issued a restraining order against Sam Lutfi, Spears' sometime ‘manager’ and friend, and gave her father permission to change the locks on her estate and remove anyone who is there.

Goetz said conservatorship over the estate was ‘necessary and appropriate’. She gave approval for the conservator to ‘take all actions to secure all liquid assets including credit cards’.

Meanwhile, Lufti has been questioned over an alleged burglary at Spears’ home. Britney’s parents reportedly noticed there were ‘several personal items’ missing from her home on Friday night, and called the police.

Lufti denies theft, and was ‘voluntarily’ questioned by LAPD officers. Britney has had no contact with Lufti since she entered the unit for treatment.

One UCLA medical insider said: ‘Britney has had no contact with Sam since her dad became her conservator on Friday.

‘Britney is doing as well as can be expected. There is major relief from her family that she is finally getting the treatment she so desperately needs, and they will stop at nothing to protect her and make sure she continues to receive medical care.’
