The French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, ended ongoing speculation about his love life by finally marrying ex-model Carla Bruni in a secret ceremony on Saturday.

The couple had kept the world guessing about the forthcoming nuptials, however the pair tied the knot at a small ceremony at the Elyseé Palace in Paris, the mayor who conducted the ceremony confirmed.

Sarkozy, 53 and Bruni, 40, had a whirlwind romance after meeting for the first time just three month ago. Sarkozy only divorced his second wife, Cécilia, four months ago.

According to mayor, François Lebel, 'the bride was ravishing, as usual' and 'the groom wasn't bad either'. Bruni opted for a short, sleeveless, off-white dress by Hermès, said witnesses in attendance.

Although Sarkozy was unable to celebrate the marriage all day, as he was called to meet about a crisis in Chad, the newlyweds were able to spend their wedding night in a former hunting lodge near the palace at Versailles where they hosted a small wedding dinner on Saturday evening.

A case of "the queen is dead, long live the queen"?

3 months is far too short a time - especially when the guy's only been divorced for 4!!
