Scarlett Johansson is on the verge of becoming engaged to boyfriend Ryan Reynolds, according to Stateside sources.

The actress has been dating fellow Hollywood star Reynolds for just eight months - after he broke off a previous engagement to singer Alanis Morissette last February – and now it looks like the pair may make their love official.

'Her rep is denying it, but a very good source tells me we can soon expect an engagement announcement from actors Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson,' claims the New York Daily News.

In other Scarlett-related gossip, the blonde bombshell is due to make a surprise performance at next month's Brit Awards, singing a track from her debut album, Anywhere I Lay My Head.

'Scarlett has tentatively agreed to sing and is definitely presenting a Brit,'; says an insider. 'It would be a real treat.'
