Troubled Britney Spears has laid her desperate feelings bare in a letter found by a friend just before her most recent meltdown.

The singer wrote a note saying, ‘perhaps it would be better if I was dead’, and detailed how she felt she couldn’t live up to family and friends’ expectations.

Sources close to Britney, including American TV psychiatrist, Dr Phil McGraw, believe she is in urgent need of help for conditions that may include manic depression and even multiple personality disorder.

The ‘suicide note’ was found in her bathroom just before her meltdown earlier this month, in which she was rushed to a psychiatric ward after refusing to hand her sons to Federline’s security guards. It was discovered by a friend who thought it ‘a cry for help’.

A source close to the singer said: ‘The letter was very sad. Britney talked about her loneliness, how unfair life is and not being able to trust people.

‘She wrote about how she will never be what people want her to be. She said, "Perhaps it would be better if I was dead”.’

Britney missed a vital court hearing over her kids on Monday. The source added: ‘People think she doesn’t care but she loves them more than anything.

‘The truth is she’s terrified of losing them and can’t face going to court. She doesn’t want to answer questions about her mental health and lifestyle.’

And in the latest of a string of bizarre behaviour, Britney shocked employees in a clothing store last week when she emerged from a changing room completely naked.

An assistant said Britney and her boyfriend, Adnan Ghalib, made ‘weird’ noises like they were having sex. And Britney swore at staff when she left.

One employee said: ‘She was slurring and spitting. Her face was covered with cold sores and acne, and her scalp was patchy.’

Britney needs to come out of the lights and if the boyfriend is there to help her and not take advantage he should bring the family member in to play. As a mother I would be right there weather she fights or not. I would not allow strangers to tell me what she wants. She doen't know at this point, and If I could be of any help to Britney I would love to

I honestly think Britney needs help, not sure about manic depression but maybe they should look at postnatal depression as a starting point of this.
Her friends and family should be supporting her more than they appear be.
We will never know the whole truth about this sorry mess, but i do think that the press should back off a little and let her get better or she will self destruct. Yes i like to read about celebrities but at the same time some rules need to be brought in to protect the stars who do get hounded by the press which i feel is currently whats happening to Britney.

If ever a girl needed help, it was this one!! Why can't the family have her committed??( even just on a temporary basic) If she does not get help in the very near future, she will be dead soon!!

She deserves one more chance to get straightened out and get help. Mental incapacity is horrible - I know from experience, so PLEASE SOMEONE MAKE HER GET HELP that she can't walk away from when the mood takes her.

Poor Britney. It's quite upsetting to see someone like this. Being a mother myself it must be terrible for her to lose her children especially to that 'idiot' of a father! Nobody seems like they want to help they just watch with ammusement and sell their stories. I hope she gets better. The 'paps' should leave her alone for a while. I still thinks she amazing though! :)
