Britney Spears issued restraining order

Britney Spears

Troubled pop star Britney Spears was handed a restraining order after her custody dispute last week, where she refused to hand her children back to Kevin Federline after her court-appointed time with them was up.

The ‘emergency protective order’, which is enforced for five days, was handed out to ‘stabilise the situation’ confirmed Kevin Federline’s attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan.

Kaplan, who did not request the restraining order, declined to say whether he would seek to extend it.

LAPD spokesperson, Mark Lopez, explains: ‘The person it's placed upon would have to stay approximately 100 feet from the other person, or face arrest.

‘In most cases, it's issued by officers when there's the possibility of imminent and immediate danger to the victim.’

Kaplan also stated that it isn’t Kevin’s intention to separate Britney from the children, saying: ‘Kevin doesn't want to keep his kids from being involved in [Spears'] life. But foremost is that the kids be in an environment of structure [and] stability. The next goal is to get things to a point where both parents are able to participate fully in their [children's] lives.’

Meanwhile, Britney’s family are outraged at Dr Phil McGraw for breaking their trust and speaking publicly about his meeting with Britney after her most recent meltdown.

Family spokesman Lou Taylor, a business manager for mother Lynne and daughter Jamie Lynn Spears, appeared on Wednesday's Today show, where she confirmed that McGraw had been sent to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Saturday to meet with Britney at the request of the family, and that Lynne Spears and McGraw's wife, Robin, know one another.

After his meeting, McGraw told Entertainment Tonight that his meeting with Britney left him ‘convinced more than ever that she was in dire need of medical and psychological intervention’.

‘What's wrong with Dr. Phil's statement,’ said Taylor, ‘is that he made a statement. The family, basically, extended an invitation of trust for him to come in as a resource to support them, not to go out and make public statements.’

She added: ‘He was not invited to make this part of a public display or part of the media.’

She also said that McGraw has now ‘compromised’ heartbroken Lynne and Jamie Lynn's relationship with Britney.

Oh please....Brittany has already "publicly displayed herself" to the media, everyone around her there in LA, and across the country (South Carolina)!! We all know she needs medical treatment!!! Don't blame Dr. Phil for making that statement. I don't see anything wrong with it. If it was an unknown psychologist making a statement, the Spears family would not be making such a fuss about it!!!!! I am tired of hearing about Britney Spears all over the news cast so please get her some kind of medical attention. We need to be hearing about how I troops are coping over in Iraq!!!! I do hope Britney gets the help she needs for a healthier and happier life with herself and her children.
