In an attempt to control her growing fears of giving birth, Nicole Richie has reportedly hired a hypnotist to help her face the pain.

The Simple Life star has previously used the same hypnotist to help her quit smoking, and has turned to the specialist again as the birth of her first child fast approaches.

A source tells Popcrunch: 'This specialist has worked with a lot of Hollywood clients who need to deal with dieting or with assorted addictions, including drugs. He’s helping Nicole to relax and stay calm and think positive thoughts as the big day approaches.'

Richie is pregnant with her first child by boyfriend Joel Madden and is due to give birth later this month.
