Billie call girl show get second series

Billie Piper on the cover of Marie Claire Kim Knott

SECRET DIARY OF a Call Girl, the television series starring Billie Piper as a high-class prostitute, has been commissioned by ITV2 for a second run.

Several US networks are also believed to be chasing the show which dramatises the Bell de Jour blog and books, according to The Guardian.

The first series pulled in 1.8 million viewers when it launched in September – the digital channel's biggest audience for an original commission.

But the show has attracted controversy for its glamorous portrayal of prostitution.

Piper's call girl has a luxurious lifestyle, earns huge amounts of money and has sex with often handsome men in smart hotels – a far cry from the reality for many.

But Piper, who apparently lobbied for the part after reading the book, has defended the series. 'This is the story of a witty, well-educated girl who enjoys having a lot of sex and likes being paid a lot of money for it,' she has said.

'She makes no apologies for it. It is her choice and she is very much in control.'
