BILLIE PIPER IS set to return to Dr Who. The former Marie Claire cover girl has agreed to a surprise appearance in the new series, bringing the Doctor's bevy of beautiful assistants to a well rounded three.

'With Donna, Martha and Rose competing to assist him, Dr Who is going to be spoilt for choice,' admits a TV source.

Billie, who made a splash on ITV2 this autumn in Diary of a Call Girl, admitted recently that she's missed being part of Dr Who, and her family have been desperate for her to reprise her award-winning role.

'Dr Who is a big part of my life,' she said. 'I've missed it since I left and I love David Tennant.

'My mum is the biggest Dr Who fan ever. I feel bad about not being in this year's Christmas special with Kylie Minogue.'

Billie is set to appear in at least three episodes of the new series, which beings next March. The programme will then take a hiatus in 2009, broadcasting a few one-off specials, before returning for a full series in 2010.

I am so pleased Rose is returning to Dr Who what a fantastic team they make.
It just isn't the same without her.

What brilliant news! Billie was the best assistant to Dr Who, the gorgeous David Tennant and I was very sad when she left. Good on ya, Billie - looking forward to seeing you.
