America Ferrera joins Hollywood writers strike
Rex Features
SOME OF HOLLYWOOD'S biggest names have hit the streets to join the writers strike that's sending US TV show and movie production haywire.
America Ferrera led the way as she and her fellow Ugly Betty cast members joined the picket line for the Writers Guild of America against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. Desperate Housewives, Felicity Huffman and Eva Longoria, were also back for the second day running.
Eva said yesterday: 'We are done, and we'll be on the lines supporting you.
'I have a whole crew that will have a terrible holiday season because there's no resolution.I care about people losing their homes, I care about my hair and makeup artists who can't make ends meet.'
Filming of hit TV shows like Ugly Betty, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives and 24 has been affected - Fox has confirmed that the seventh series of the popular drama, starring Kiefer Sutherland, will be delayed indefinitely.
Producer Alexandra Cunningham said Tuesday that Desperate Housewives will stop production on Wednesday after running out of scripts.
This is the first time writers have gone on strike since 1988, when the walkout lasted 22 weeks and cost the industry more than $500 million.
