James McAvoy may play Kurt Cobain
JAMES MCAVOY IS among the frontrunners to play Kurt Cobain in a movie about the Nirvana singer's life.
Despite McAvoy's last two roles being romantic leads in period dramas – Becoming Jane and Atonement – movie bosses hope the 28-year-old will be persuaded to take on the rock and roll lead.
Industry insiders have revealed the British star – already a big star in the States after hit movies like The Last King of Scotland – has been tipped to play the role of the fated Nirvana frontman, who shot himself in 1994.
The untitled film project will see Cobain's widow Courtney Love help oversee the movie as executive producer. In addition never-seen-before journals written by the late star will be used to detail his life and demise.
One movie insider said: 'James is hot property in Hollywood right now and it's felt he would be perfect for the role of Kurt, who was a complex and unpredictable character.'

James, don't be afraid to take the role. Nobody else would be perfect for it. I even think that Cobain himself is smiling somewhere up there knowing that you will portray him. Remember when you said that Forest didn't like the role of Idi Amin the first time he read the script, but everybody else in the business can see that it was his potential Oscar? Well, why not apply this idea to yourself?
