Sophie Dahl on weight and relationship with Jamie Cullum

Sophie Dahl

SOPHIE DAHL HAS revealed she felt 'incredibly uncomfortable' when speculation over her weight loss hit the headlines.

Speaking in an interview with The Guardian, the model who's pre-weight loss was a size 14 and dubbed 'big friendly giant' and 'Sophie and the giant peaches' in the media, explained that at the age of 18 she wanted to be the same size and shape as her friends.

'So that I could borrow clothes from them. It was as simple as that,' describes Dahl. 'So to suddenly have what should be private time, when you're working out your relationship to your body, made very public was just extraordinary.'

The 30-year-old also spoke of her new relationship with jazz singer Jamie Cullum. Her newfound love has also caused quite a stir – owing to the pair's significant difference in height – she is 6ft, he is 5ft 6in.

Dahl said the gossip over their height didn't bother her. 'I find it weird but when you're really happy you don't give a shit. I think if we were both slightly more neurotic people, it would be crippling, but the fact of the matter is that we're both happy. It's cool.'
