Perez Hilton website sued over Britney Spears song leaks

Marie Claire news: Perez Hilton is being sued over Britney lyrics

CELEBRITY GOSSIP WEBSITE PerezHilton.com is being sued by music label, Zomba, who have alleged it illegally posted recordings by pop star Britney Spears.

The suit, filed in US District Court in Los Angeles on Thursday, accused the site and its proprietor, Mario Lavandeira, of illegally obtaining and posting at least 10 completed songs and unfinished demos from Spears' upcoming album, Blackout, during the last three months, Zomba said in a statement

The label, who owns the rights to Britney's recordings, is seeking compensation for 'real and punitive damages as well as legal costs', reports the LA Times. The suit does not specify any figures as yet.

Blackout was scheduled for release on 13 November by Jive Records, part of the Zomba group, but the release date has now been moved forward due to unauthorised leaks.

A spokesman told the Daily Mirror: 'Due to these numerous unauthorised online leaks, the label is doing everything possible to prevent and avoid any further illegal distribution of songs, including moving the release date of the album to October 30.'
