Sopranos wins big at 59th Annual Emmy Awards

Cult mob series The Sopranos won the coveted Best Drama Series gong at last night's 59th Annual Emmy Awards.

The hugely popular American show also picked up writing and directing awards, while Ricky Gervais and Helen Mirren made sure British talent didn't go unnoticed and snapped up Best Actor in a Comedy Series, Extras, and Best Actress in a Miniseries or Movie, Prime Suspect: The Final Chapter, respectively.

Veteran actress Sally Field proved she's still a hot talent by nabbing the Best Actress in a Drama Series for new hit Brothers and Sisters, and America Ferrera said she 'couldn't wait to go to work tomorrow' after being honoured with a Best Actress in a Comedy Series award for her lovable portrayal of Ugly Betty.

Knocked Up star Katherine Heigl announced she thought she 'didn't have a shot in hell of winning' so when she picked up Best Supporting Actress for Grey's Anatomy, she 'didn't have anything prepared'.

But, she added, she'd 'worked her ass off' for 17 years to win such an accolade.
