Jamelia and other stars to perform in Oxfam charity-shop gig

Stars are queing up to perform in a specially-converted Oxfam shop as part of a month-long festival organised by the charity this October.

The Kooks will perform an acoustic act, while Jarvis Cocker will do a DJ set on Monday 1 October; Jamelia and Killa Kela are lined up for the following day; Hot Chip and DJ Bobby Friction will appear on Wednesday, while Fatboy Slim and Emmanuel Jal will round off the live acts on 4 October.

The star-studded performances are just one part of the month-long festival Oxjam, which has been organised to raise £1 million to tackle poverty worldwide.

Fatboy Slim - real name Norman Cook - says he had always donated his old records to the charity, while Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard says the campaign is about 'thousands of small events adding up to something much bigger' to make a difference.

A successful collection of £1 million could fund the provision of drinking water for almost 1.4 million people, or 20,000 emergency shelters, or medicine to treat 10,000 people.

The festival is expected to involve about 40,000 musicians in 3,000 events, including a 12-hour 'buskathon' in about a dozen British cities.
