Madonna performing at Live Earth London

It's a pairing set to blow the audience away, Madonna and Justin Timberlake are hooking up to perform together at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Entertainment Tonight Canada reported yesterday that the pair will team up to spice up onstage events.

Other stars lined up to perform at the bash, which airs live on MTV from the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas on 9 September, include Nelly Furtado, Kanye West, Rihanna, and the Foo Fighters.

Britney Spears is also said to be working on a surprise performance with magician Criss Angel for the 24th annual MTV do.

And Madonna and JT might not be the only super-cool coupling up.

Hotshot producer Timbaland is the 'official maestro' and will be responsible for creating 'show-stopping and unexpected artist collaborations', MTV revealed.
