The favourite to win revealed Aiden is a better singer, but love-or-hate act Katie Waissel is preferred by the judges, as she gets more attention outside of the show.

And it seems it’s been paying off. Ratings this year have been at an all-time high, with a whopping 17.7 million viewers tuning in to Saturday’s show.

Now Matt has claimed the better performers are ‘expendable’ to those who cause a stir surrounding the singing show.

‘In terms of the television show, Aiden was expendable,’ he said. ‘I was shocked when Simon sent him home, but then Katie is better for the show than Aiden is.

‘She gets the coverage – she gets the show attention. He just isn’t like that but he is a much better singer.

'It is like losing a brother. When it went to Katie and Aiden in the bottom two, I didn't think he would go. Even when it went to deadlock, I thought he would stay.'

And Matt was less than complementary about Katie’s singing talents, revealing he ‘can’t see where the entertainment is coming from’ in her performances.

‘It is an entertainment show – but I can’t see where the entertainment is coming from [with Katie] as she is not doing that well,’ he added.

'I think it should be more about singing from now on.’

And it’s not just Matt who isn’t a fan. Yesterday, axed contestant Aiden spoke out about the singer, too.

‘There’s always going to be someone that you meet in the world that doesn’t really float your boat and she doesn’t really float by boat,’ he said.
