Spice Girls take to stage for first time in decade
The Spice Girls took to the stage last night for the first time in nearly a decade for the first date in their reunion world tour.
It was the first time Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell had performed together since their 1998 concert in Birmingham shortly before Geri left the group.
There were eight costume changes during the sell-out concert in front of 15,000 ecstatic fans in Vancouver.
The world’s most famous girl band chose shimmering gold outfits designed especially for the tour by Posh’s designer friend Roberto Cavalli.
In one segment, the girls wore outfits reflecting their nicknames, with Ginger sporting a rhinestone version of the Union jack dress she famously wore to The Brits and Scary in animal-print with matching knee-high boots.
Posh emerged in skin-tight leggings and her trademark bustier and Baby got an updated baby-doll dress while Sporty wore an astronaut-style trouser suit.
Posh admitted to being nervous before the concert – especially about what her husband David Beckham, who flew in following a tour of New Zealand with his team LA Galaxy, would think of it.
She said: ‘David turned up today but he hasn’t been at any of the rehearsals because he’s been away working so I’m nervous about what he’s going to think about the show.’
Last night was the first concert of a 40-date world tour which will see the Spice Girls perform in London, Cape Town, Las Vegas, New York, Shanghai and Beijing.
All UK dates for the Return of the Spice Girls tour, which coincides with the release of their Greatest Hits album, sold out within 38 seconds of being released in October.
