Britney Spears posted a sneak preview of her hugely-anticipated new video on Twitter last night, at the same time as she made chart history in the US.

The comeback queen uploaded a snapshot from the video for her new hit single Hold It Against Me, along with the caption: 'Day 2 is a wrap! #HIAM video coming soon...-Britney.'

The still, which looks to have been photographed from a TV screen or computer monitor, shows a well-coiffured Britney in red, surrounded by a circle of microphones.

The snap was released just as Britney made music history Stateside, with the very same single debuting at the top spot on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart.

This makes Ms Spears only the second artist in Billboard's 52-year-history to have two singles go straight in at number one within their first week of release. Her first was single 3, back in 2009.

This also marks Britney's fourth No. 1 in total, along with tracks Baby One More Time and Womanizer.

The only other artist to have reached the top spot more than once during a single's first week, is Mariah Carey - with Fantasy and One Sweet Day in 1995, and Honey in 1997.

According to Nielson SoundScan, Britney yesterday also took the record for most digital downloads in a first week with 411,000 copies, beating previous record holder Taylor Swift, who shifted 325,000 digital copies of Today Was a Fairytale last year.

However Brit's new track proved to be not quite as popular in the UK, coming in at number six in yesterday's chart.
