Sheridan Smith tipped to play Bridget Jones

Sheridan will don the infamous Spanx for West End film adaptation

Bridget Jones fans do we have yet another treat for you! Last week we confirmed Bridget Jones 3 will hit the big screen and now news has reached us that the lovely Sheridan Smith is tipped to bring our favourite singleton to the West End.

The theatre production of the original Bridget Jones novel is to be directed by Stephen Daldry, while Lily Allen is writing the music.

Sheridan, who has been playing the ultimate girls’ girl, Elle Woods, in the musical adaptation Legally Blonde, seems more than ready to bring out the Spanx.

Now, it’s been reported that she’s the frontrunner for the lead role in the new stage adaptation and Bridget author Helen Fielding ic clearly a fan, tweeting the actress earlier this month, ‘You ARE Bridget Jones’.

The musical will debut in London next year – seems like far too long away for us!
