Who threw the most glamorous - and star-studded - bashes of the night?

When Madonna and Demi Moore heard that the biggest Oscar after-party, Vanity Fair's, was being cancelled, they stepped up and decided to throw their own glamorous bash.

Although Elton John's annual AIDS fundraiser was still on, the Madonna-Moore party - held at a home in the Westside Hills - was said to be the hottest ticket in Hollywood. One insider who'd seen the guest list said: 'Everybody's on it. It gives the A-list Vanity Fair crowd someplace to go to. It will probably be pared down to where it's 85% talent, not a lot of suits.'

But Prince was also rumoured to be giving Madonna and Moore a run for their money with a party of his own.

Rumoured to be taking place at his new pad in Benedict Canyon, one source familiar with the RSVP list says names included 'Katie and Tom, Will Smith, Salma (Hayek) and Penelope (Cruz).'

Held in the Hollywood and Highland Centre Ballroom in LA's Kodak Theatre, the annual Governors Ball, known as the 'starter' party where celebs go before heading off to other glamorous bashes, was this year's see-and-be-seen territory.

'It's the biggest game in town,' said one exec. 'This is going to put the glamour back into the ball.'

Check back soon to see who won the battle of the bashes.
