Katie Holmes is being tipped to play Elena Lincoln in next year's erotic blockbuster

Katie Holmes has got her eye on a racy role in the the film version of E.L. James' erotic bestseller 50 Shades of Grey, sources are claiming.

The 34-year-old face of Bobbi Brown is said to have set her sights on playing Christian Grey's long-term friend and former lover, Elena Lincoln, alongside Irish heartthrob Jamie Dornan.

'She’s looking at this as the role of a lifetime for her,' a movie insider told National Enquirer. 'It will shock a lot of people, but she thinks Hollywood will sit up and take notice. She knows she has to reinvent herself.'

Since her divorce from A-list actor Tom Cruise last June, Katie has been working hard to get her career back on track - the former Dawson's Creek star has been busy in New York working on her Broadway play Dead Accounts, as well as filming parts for upcoming films Mania Days, The Giver and Miss Meadows.

But a role in one of the most highly-anticipated films of 2014 would most certainly thrust Katie firmly back into the spotlight. Especially playing Christian's kinky former business and sex partner, who was portrayed in the book as a seductive Mrs. Robinson-type... Saucy!
