Kate Middleton and baby bump braved the rain in London earlier this week for a secret shopping spree - but what did they get up to?

According to reports, the Duchess of Cambridge not only snapped up an antique run, she also visited swanky design spot Chelsea Harbour, on the hunt for lighting for her London pad.

Sources say Kate Middleton kicked off her trip to the shops around 11am, when she arrived at Chelsea Harbour's Dome cafe for a spot of breakfast - fuel for her growing baby bump.

It's thought the pregnant royal, who wrapped up warm in a tartan coat and matching scarf, then spent several hours browsing the Design Centre, where she was particularly looking for lighting.

Kate Middleton is currently overseeing renovations in not just one, but two new homes - apartment 1A in Kensington Palace, thought to be ready later this summer, and the sprawling Anmer Hall on the Queen's country estate at Sandringham.

That's a lot of shopping to do!

After scouring the shelves, the pregnant Duchess braved the rain to move on, carrying all her own shopping bags to the car, as she was shielded from the storm by a security guard bearing an umbrella.

Next it was time for a trip to the trendy Lots Road area, famous for stocking vintage and contemporary furniture and homeward.

Insiders say the royal purchased a rug at one of the street's many stores, while bystanders to to Twitter to express their delight at seeing Kate Middleton wandering past.

This is not the first time Kate has been spotted shopping for interior goodies.

In April, Kate Middleton was spotted browsing for antiques at Mews Antique Emporium in the market town of Holt, during a girlie weekend in Norfolk.

According to reports, pregnant Kate Middleton often visits the tiny antiques stores, as she sources furnishings for her royal nursery.

This comes after it was revealed Kate is planning a £1 million makeover of her planned nursery at the couple's new London home in Kensington Palace.

It's thought an interior designer for the new 'baby suite' has already been appointed although the details of the creative in charge and the nursery's design have not been revealed.
