Kate Middleton and Prince William celebrated their second wedding anniversary yesterday - but how did they mark the occasion?

Kate Middleton and Prince William may have celebrated their second wedding anniversary yesterday, but it seems it was rather a low key day for the royal pair.

In contrast to their extravagant Westminster Abbey nuptials in 2011, it was business as usual for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who both got down to work, with their respective commitments keeping them apart.

Kate Middleton spent the afternoon visiting Naomi House Children's Hospice in Winchester, where she wore a peach Tara Jarmon coat to show off her burgeoning baby bump, and met patients and staff at the care centre.

Meanwhile, Prince William was on duty at his RAF base in Anglesey, North Wales.

But we were glad to hear the couple didn't let their special day go completely unnoticed. According to reports, Prince William surprised Kate Middleton with a romantic meal at home on April 26, three days before their official anniversary.

Last year, Kate Middleton and Prince William marked their first wedding anniversary by attending another set of nuptials - those of Kate's close school friend Hannah Gillingham, at a picturesque church near Eye, Suffolk.

The pair celebrated their special day by attending the ceremony, before nodding off, not at a swanky hotel but at the the £164-a night local pub down the road.

General manager Gareth Clarke said they had been warned some 'special guests' would be staying, but they had no clue the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were about to arrive.

'We were made aware that some special guests were arriving but we didn’t know just how special,' he said. 'It was a lovely family occasion with a relaxed atmosphere and they were both seemed really happy to be in a comfortable environment with friends.

'William and Kate pitched up at about 1am and enjoyed a drink at the bar before retiring to the Swan room for the night.'

'They both ate a cooked breakfast of bacon and eggs before they left in the morning.'

It's thought Prince William and Kate Middleton then left for their remote Anglesey farmhouse, where Kate was planning to cook William a romantic meal of fish en papillote - in parchment - to celebrate their first, or 'paper' anniversary.
