The American Hustle star tripped in her Dior gown during last year's Oscars ceremony. And now she's finally revealed why...

Jennifer Lawrence won't be forgetting last year's Oscars in her hurry – not only did she bag the Best Actress Award for her role as a troubled twenty-something in Silver Linings Playbook, but she had a serious wardrobe malfunction, too.

But rather than blaming her frothy pink Dior couture gown for the mishap – which saw J-Law take a tumble as she went to accept her trophy – the 23-year-old says it was, erm... cake, that made her fall. 

Explaining what happened, the Hunger Games star told W magazine: 'I was at the Oscars, waiting to hear if my name was called, and I kept thinking, cakewalk, cakewalk, cakewalk. I thought, "Why is 'cakewalk stuck in my head?"'

'And then, as I started to walk up the stairs and the fabric from my dress tucked under my feet, I realised my stylist had told me, "Kick, walk, kick, walk".'

'You are supposed to kick the dress out while you walk, and I totally forgot because I was thinking about cake! And that's why I fell.'

Ah, Jennifer. This is why we love you.

However, we hope the young actress manages to keep her mind on the matter in hand this awards season – with both Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations for her role in American Hustle, it's very likely Jen will be making that walk to the stage again.

Or maybe she should think about a shorter hem...
