The author launched Pottermore earlier today, sending fans a series of clues to help them uncover the site.

Eager readers were given 10 sets of co ordinates to enter into site Secret Street View, with a letter found at each location spelled out the Pottermore name.

Now that's excitement for you.

Today, the website features just the name and Rowling's signature. But the site does lead to a YouTube page, featuring a timer, counting down to an exciting announcement by the author. (It currently stands at 6 days, 20 hours and 12 minutes, just so you know.)

A Pottermore Twitter account has also being created - so far, amassing a whopping 28,600 followers - and so far contains just two Tweets, one of which reads: 'Looks like the owls are getting ready to deliver some exciting news: www.youtube.com/JKRowlingAnnounces #pottermore'.

But what will the exciting announcement be? While most are saying the changes of another book are unlikely, others have heard whisperings the site will feature games, readings, film clips and competitions, and serve as a meeting place for fans.

Fansite The Leaky Cauldron claims to have been given a preview of the special site, describing it as 'in a word, breathtaking,' but added: 'That is all we are permitted to say at the moment.'

It's thought Rowling trademarked the name Pottermore back in 2009, covering everything from printed books, to toys, film clips, digital audio and more.

So it seems something big could soon be on the way!
