Is John Mayer's new song about Jennifer Aniston?

John Mayer has been wearing his heart on his sleeve again – prompting rumours his latest song is about ex-love Jennifer Aniston.

He debuted the tune on board his fan cruise the Mayercraft Carrier – where he performed in an eye-wateringly small pair of white captain's shorts – and the lyrics about love left the crowd wondering if it was about Jen.

The song features the chorus: 'If you want more love, why don't you say so?' and the lyrics: 'Drop his name, push it in and twist the knife again; Watch my face as I pretend to feel no pain, pain, pain.'

Could he be talking about the B-word?

'The concept of the album is the war of love - the art of war of love,' Mayer explained to the crowd.

'Sometimes instead of saying "I love you", people can't recognise that. They recognise how much you come to their aid when they are in pain.'

He continued: 'I am a positivity man. Sometimes people try to recognise love in terms of negativity. When you are in that situation, that is not a lot of fun.'

Ouch! Let's hope he's talking hypothetically...
