Glee star Charice's grief after father stabbed to death with ice-pick

The father of actress Charice Pempengco, who plays the character Sunshine in Glee, has been stabbed to death after an arguement in a shop in the Philippines.

The 19-year-old's dad, Ricky Pempengco, was reportedly killed in the Filipino town of San Pedro after an argument erupted between him and a drunken man in a convenience store.

Police have said that Pempengco accidently bumped into the man in the shop, who then allegedly stabbed him in the back and chest with an ice-pick.

Singer and actress Charice was due to perform at the David Foster and Friends concert in Singapore this week but has flown to the Philippines to be with her family in the wake of the tragedy.

Taking to Twitter, Charice apologised to her fans: 'I am very sorry to all my fans from Singapore. I am not going to be there to be part of David Foster and Friends concert.

'I have to go back to the Philippines as soon as possible to be with my family. I hope you all understand. I love you all and I will see you next year.'

Glee co-star Lea Michele offered her condolences, tweeting: 'My thoughts and prayers go out today to my girl @OfficialChariceand her family for their terrible loss.. Thinking of you Charice...[sic]'

While already a household name in Asia, Charice found fame in America after appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show when she was 15.

In 2008 Oprah Winfrey called Charice 'the most talented girl in the world' after she appeared on her TV show.

Filippino police have said the brutal killing was a random attack and have issued a 20,000 pesos (£295) reward for information.
