Geri reveals why she left the Spice Girls

Geri Halliwell has finally revealed why she left the Spice Girls, in a new documentary on the rise and fall of the girl group.

Speaking during the programme, entitled Giving you Everything, Geri gets teary when asked why she left the group so abruptly in 1998, and reveals that she felt they no longer needed her. She comments, 'I just felt like the band had got so big, and the girls were almost like they didn't need me anymore, really. I definitely felt very redundant, like the wheels were turning whether I was there or not.'

All five members of the reunited band speak during the documentary, with Mel C adding that the four remaining girls were left incredibly shocked by Halliwell's exit. Speaking of the fans she added, 'Luckily, you know, they were cool. They said, "We still want to see the Spice Girls."'

The documentary follows the careers of the Spices, looking at the highs as much as the lows. Speaking of her time in the band, Victoria Beckham comments that it was 'everything that I ever dreamed of and more.'
