Is this the hippest ceremony there ever was?

We don’t know about but you, but we CAN’T stop talking about Solange Knowles’ wedding in the Marie Claire office.

The cape; her vintage bicycle; groom Alan Ferguson’s bronze-capped shoes: Did we mention that cape? From now on, the only way to arrive at your wedding is to leisurely bike there in a white Stephane Rolland jumpsuit (Solange’s white attire laughs in the face of bicycle oil grease and spokes), whilst your guests wave sparklers like it’s the Tour de France.

Mixing up Miss Marple transportation with Studio 54 style, Solange officially upped the stakes when it comes to saying ‘I do’ and we can’t get enough of it.

Is this the hippest wedding there ever was? We think so. Here are just five things last weekend’s Solange Knowles-Alan Ferguson nuptials taught us. Are we ready, class of 2015?

Capes are officially in

Not just any capes: bridal capes. Designed by Humberto Leon for Kenzo, Solange’s celestial, floor-length gown and attached-cape transformed her into what could only be described as Cleopatra-in-space. But why stop at intergalactic bridal domination when you can debut two capes in one day? Cycling to their wedding ceremony at the Marigny Opera House in New Orleans, Solange pedalled like a sexy, caped crusader in a plunging, cream jumpsuit with yet another fabulous cape – this time, taking her style tips from Bianca Jagger. It’s. Too. Much. To. Handle.

The return of the wedding trousseau

Not one, not two, but six killer wedding outfits contributed to the phenomenon that was Solange Knowles’ big day. Much like the new Mrs Clooney, Solange picked an array of outfits to see her through the wedding weekend: a calf-length, thigh-slit Ellery dress for the pre-wedding event? Check. A one-shouldered, one-legged Rolland jumpsuit? (Damn, she’s good) Check. Is this the return of the wedding trousseau? We vote, yes!

All-white ensembles are no longer a no-no

If anyone is going to break the ultimate wedding rule, Beyonce’s rebellious younger sister is the one to do it with gusto: everyone wore white. We’ve checked the mind-blowing instagram photos (that look like a Calvin Klein ad) and the decision is unanimously in: this is what heaven looks like.

Why have one big day when you can have a whole weekend?

Why cram the celebrations into a single day when you get spread things out leisurely over an entire weekend? Solange and Alan’s epic wedding weekend showed us it is possible to remain low-key yet still indulge in extended time with your loved ones. Granted, we can’t all get married in New Orleans, but the little touches make all the difference. Why not take a leaf out of the Knowles’ rule book? The night before they said their vows, the 50-strong party reportedly watched a screening of the 1975 Diana Ross movie Mahogany, the same film the couple enjoyed on their first date. Awww.
