Lock up your puppies!

We didn’t think that we could love Emma Stone any more than what we already did, but today our adoration is entering new, unknown territories, as the Oscar nominated actress has been signed up to play 101 Dalmatians super-villain Cruella di Vil.

*Disney obsessed brains explode*

Yup, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Emma is in early negotiations to star in a live action reimagining of the fur obsessed, chain smoking character in a film entitled Cruella.

The Disney project is intended to be a look at the origin of the story of Cruella and how she came to be the evil wannabe puppy slayer in the 1961 classic.

While the film has no the film is set to be a priority for the studio this year and a release date is expected for next year, however there is no director on board yet.

The script has been written by Kelly Marcel who wrote Mary Poppins reimagining, Saving Mr. Banks, and Fifty Shades of Grey. We’re assuming that the film will have more of the Saving Mr. Banks undertones, rather than, um, the other ones though.

Aline Brosh McKenna worked on an early version of the script and also has some strong Disney credentials, working on the 2015 version of Cinderella, plus The Devil Wears Prada, which come to think of it, Miranda Priestly... Cruella... Not miles apart?

Anyway, we can’t wait, Cruella is the ultimate Disney villain, in fact we’ll even go as far to say she trumps The Little Mermaid’s Ursula in terms of evil. (Well, maybe.)

Other Disney live action movies due for release next year are Maleficent 2 starring Angelina Jolie, and Mary Poppins with Emily Blunt taking the lead.

Tim Burton has also been signed up to direct a new version of Dumbo, with Ehren Kruger writing the script, which should be pretty dark seeing as he’s also responsible for The Ring and The Brothers Grimm.

Oh Disney’s about to get even better for us grown ups.
