Daniel Craig wows the crowd at European premiere of Defiance

Daniel Craig stepped out on to the red carpet at the European premiere of his new film Defiance looking as sharp as his James Bond character.

The blond star was dapper in a three-piece grey suit and silver tie, while his film producer girlfriend, Satsuki Mitchell, was radiant in a black beaded Louis Vuitton spring 2009 dress and towering patent platforms.

The new holocaust-themed movie tells the true story of three Jewish brothers, the Bielskis, who escape Nazi-occupied Poland and take refuge in the woods they have known since childhood.

From there they begin to fight back against the Nazis and are joined in battle by a varied group of men and women.

Craig said of the movie: ‘We didn't do it for the money, this movie, we did it because we loved doing it.

'We had a laugh - we had to. It was just as soon as I read the material I saw it was something I wanted to get involved in and expose to the world.'

Director Edward Zwick said there was a sense of urgency about telling stories like that of the Bielski brothers while Holocaust survivors were still alive.

'This is the 11th hour,' he said. 'The last survivors at this moment will within five or 10 years all be gone.’

Liev Schrieber and Billy Elliot star Jamie Bell play Craig’s on-screen brothers, and were also in attendance at the Leicester Square screening.

Craig didn’t give any details about his next project, but he laughed off rumours that he’s set to play Noel Gallagher in a film about Oasis.

‘Noel Gallagher wants me to play him in a movie about his life. He's full of sh*t - that is ridiculous,’ he smiled. ‘He must have been in a very good mood to say that.

'I'm way older than him anyway so I couldn't play him, but I love the idea - it's fantastic.’

He added: 'I can play the guitar better than him. I haven't had a call from Liam yet so I'll wait for that one.’
